What we do
Our model for change balances education, community collaboration and strategic, effective grantmaking.
Specifically, Women Give San Diego:
- Provides grant funding to effective nonprofits committed to improving the self-sufficiency and economic security of women and girls in San Diego
- Advocates and raises awareness on women’s economic issues at the local and state levels
- Maintains a thriving membership filled with strong, professional, committed women, each of whom is willing to pool her resources to advance the lives of San Diego’s women and girls, and, by extension, San Diego as a whole

About Women Give San Diego
Women Give San Diego was founded in 2010 by Jan Tuttleman, Gayle Tauber and Linda Katz, with the vision that when women and girls become thriving members of a community, their communities also thrive.
The organization helps women and girls achieve this by raising awareness about and advocating for economic security issues. It also provides financial support to nonprofit organizations committed to helping women and girls engage in the prosperity of their local communities.
Through its unique combination of education, political action, community collaboration and strategic grantmaking, the members of Women Give San Diego know that they help the community’s underserved women and girls to reach new heights – for themselves, for their families, and for San Diego as a whole.
Women Give San Diego is a donor circle of the Women’s Foundation of California, which for over 30 years has been supporting and training women leaders and providing opportunities for hands-on community activism. It currently has nine donor circles throughout the state and is nationally recognized for its model of change for underserved women and girls.
Donor circles are groups of individuals, corporate representatives and philanthropic partners who pool their donations in order to greater impact the issues they most care about. Most donor circles expect hands-on involvement in the communities they donate to. Donor circles were created on the premise that money can be given wisely, and that teaching how to use money is part of the wisdom of giving it.
Local donor circles connected to larger philanthropic organizations, such as the Women’s Foundation of California, are on the rise throughout the country, becoming a trend and model for effective, targeted philanthropy.
As of March 2011, Women Give San Diego’s membership has grown to over 80 with an age demographic unusually distributed between those women in their twenties to those women in their seventies. Each member is committed to pooling her resources to advance the organization’s critically important mission.
In 2010, its first year of grantmaking, the organization provided $46,000 to three local nonprofits committed to increasing the level of self-sufficiency and security among San Diego women and girls.
